How To OWN Your Own Life

Over the last few weeks we discussed the planes of existence before life, the planes of existence we create during life, and the planes of existence after death. We likened it to being in a movie, a dreamscape. This metaphor was necessary for us to get our heads around looking at our lives from a different perspective and to help us understand what’s going on. Let’s entertain the possibility, or, as they say in the movies, let’s be entertained. Let’s go to the movies. Let’s see what will happen in the drama of our lives.

The problem is we’re always trying to solve the problem at the level of the problem. We’re trying to understand who we are in a body while being in a body. It’s only when we step outside of that body we can look back at it and understand it better. Another way to describe the same thing is, a computer program doesn’t understand itself, but the programmer does because the programmer is able to look back on what it created and see it objectively and understand it.

In that way, we’re looking on our lives as if we were in a movie theater. Everything that’s going on, all the drama, all the adventure, all the excitement, all the love is there for us to make our reality more believable. So, everything we’ve created is there to convince us of how real it really is.
With that premise, with that understanding, we finished the last episode where we looked at ourselves as having moved from being an actor or actress to being the director of our own life-movie. From the vantage point of the director we could step outside the theater of our lives or go back into the studio and continue to create the movie. At all times, we direct where people are in our lives, where they go, where they sit, what they say to cause tension and strife or love and union. We direct the lighting, the sound, the technology, and we create the atmosphere.

That is all done by us as the director. We found it very satisfying because we felt an element of control. We got a bigger understanding of our lives from stepping outside our mortal existence as actors on a stage and looking at ourselves from a different perspective.

The “outside” is relative, but we’re limited by language as we try to expand our awareness in this way. The very words I am using to portray this possibility contained boundaries. So, let’s try to be loose about my metaphor so we can open the doors even a crack, just enough to let a glint of sunlight come in, just enough so we can see what’s going on inside in our darkened rooms, inside the dark cinema, inside our minds.

Inside the dark cinema of our minds, we are shining the projector light on ourselves so we can see what’s going on. In this way, we moved to look and feel what it must be like for a director to say,

“I’ve earned enough money now I can buy this studio. I can buy the whole show.”

All right, so here we are, we now own the studio of our mind, the reality show of our lives. And immediately, we notice we’ve got several movies going on. We’ve an adventure going on in Studio One, a tragedy in Studio Two, and a comedy in Studio Three.

Maybe we’ve bought 10 studios and we’re making different movies in each studio. But remember, we own the whole thing. That is a very liberating thought because now we can tell the director what to do. We can say,

“I don’t like that outcome. The ending must be more dramatic!”
“I want to change the location on that one. It should be set in the 1940’s instead.”
Or, “I’m running over budget on that drama folks. I’m cutting back on costumes.”
Or, “No, I did that before and it didn’t work.”
Or, “I don’t like it Mr. Director, you will rewrite the screenplay on this one.”
Or, “I want to drop that big-name actor and introduce this new actress in his place.”

Whatever decisions are being made at that level, these are what are impacting our lives. But now we own the studio so we are empowered by being able to make these decisions ourselves. Not only that, we also know where the stage door is. We can walk in and out of these different scenes whenever we like. We can check what’s going on in Studio One, hop over to see what’s going on in Studio Two. Check the progress of this one, decide the future of the other one — all because we now own the studio of our lives. It’s an immensely more powerful place than being the actor or the actress in the movie, buffeted by circumstances, at the mercy of events and under the control of others.

We’ve come a long way with this analogy now. We’ve seen what it’s like to be an actor, then a Director, and now — the owner. It’s important to stay with it because it is surely empowering. You might not believe it yet, but please stay with me because — even the very possibility of this, even entertaining the very thought you could be the owner of your own reality studio here on Earth might be something that will change your life for the better, forever.

So, here we are now, the owner of the studio. We decide what movies will play. We decide if the lead actor (i.e. you, me, us) in this motion picture of life get sick, or dies tragically, if there will be a love story in that one, if this one has children, if she will have money, if he dies in poverty, if this one is born black or white, or short or tall. Our own creative ability decides if this one will be a king, a queen, a president, a pauper. We decide if we should be born in Africa or Venezuela, or Albania or Brazil. We’re now making these decisions at a high level. We’re even deciding if our real-life movie will be made at all. Let that one sink in. We are even deciding if we will make our life-movie at all.

“Oh, I’m sorry, all our studios are full.”
“It’s not in our budget to create that movie.”
“We must put that screenplay on the long finger for now.”
“Let’s just sell it to a different studio in another creation across town.”
Or, “Let’s visit the bank and borrow the money, because we must bring this experience to the world. We will build another studio. Let’s make it Studio Number 11 and in there we will create the blockbuster of all time.”

You can see where this is going and you can see the possibilities. The power of being the studio owner is immense.

I’d like to leave this episode right here with the thought you are the owner of your life drama, except I will drop another little seed into your mind before I go.

What would it be like if you were the financier of the studio?

You’ve gone past the owner and you’re now the one who’s financing the whole business. You’re the one who pulls the draw strings to the money. You’re the money bags, so you now are telling the studio owner what he or she can make and what he or she can’t make, where you want your money to be spent. You choose the pictures you want to bank on. You even decide where you want to studios to be located. Every major decision is made by you, down to whether you want to save money on gas or you want to switch over from oil to solar power in all of your studios.

Now, you can see where we’re into a new plane of existence. And you get how powerful we really are. So, when we come back, we will explore what it’s like to be the financier of the creation of realities. Until then, bye from myself Ahonu and from Aingeal Rose.
